What Does it Mean to Be Brave?

Sometimes we just need to be brave and try something we have never done before; or stop ourselves from something before it causes harm. This book can help teach children a lesson about life in our current and troubling moment. How do I go to school and be brave at the same time I may feel unsafe about what’s so unknown and invisible: the coronavirus? How do I stop myself from removing my mask when I know that wearing the mask is the right thing to do? Trying new things, even when scared, is always important for children, especially in these times. Taking healthy risks helps us know the world and makes us creative.

Be Brave is about having an outside helper, a cousin, who encourages Archie to draw on his pride to fuel his approach to something he has never done before. Perhaps in reading this book to children, adults can also reflect on their own impulses to do the right thing during the pandemic. Children’s books are not just for kids!
